Matthew Doyle: Discovering the Horse

Working with people and horses one on one or in small group settings.  Lessons are customized to your schedule and location.  My approach is to begin at the level of horse and rider and work as a team, building solid foundations that are taken to the ring, arena and trail.  My purpose is to be a guide on the path that presents itself throughout the training and encourage both horse and rider to find their "best self" !

“On a beautiful Spring day in April 2009, Mum brought my brother, my best friend and I to a local riding school, little did I know this day would change everything for me and about me.  As a kid, heck I still am one, I struggled. Diagnosed with learning disability and socio-emotional disorders, everything unknown was terrifying.  Imagine a world where you are afraid of things like movie theaters, swimming in a lake, changes in plan, being in public, sleepovers, different foods, the news or being alone.  Doing things that fell into an area of my fear would fill me with worry, anxiety and panic.  Because of this fear I was an easy target at school.  I was well behind in reading writing and comprehension so I was prime pickings for school bullies.  My fear has physical manifestation, headaches, vomiting, and awful stuff “south of the boarder” which meant I hid within the confines of very few friends and mostly my family.  We laugh now but there is a picture floating around of me on the back of a camel at the Texas Renfest.  My face says it all, TERROR.  So, imagine my thoughts as we drove to the ranch that day where I was going to ride a horse, in a lesson, for the first time.

Having seen, and survived the dark side of bullying, fighting to make the grade and failure.  I have a deep appreciation for the role of horses in our lives.  It’s through horses that I found the gateway to be myself.  To be who I know I want to be.   Horses have given me a voice, self-esteem and awareness that I lacked as a child.  There are solid correlations to healing with animals and huge success in the world of animal assistance.

Associations like "Wounded Warriors" are using dogs to help with PTSD, "PALS" programs take pets into hospitals and nursing homes, and so many more.  Service dogs are used for Autistic, Downe Syndrome and have been serving blind for decades.  We now have Equine Facilitated Learning, and Healing with Horses’ groups that serve people from all walks of life, it wouldn’t be until just in the Fall of 2018 that I knew I was meant to serve people and help navigate the complications that come with living.  Horses are my conduit and as my hunger to understand myself, and it is my true calling to share it with all of you.  Welcome to the Journey” with gratitude...Matt
